Kimberly Casiello Sees a Career-High in Points as Widener Downs Hood

Casiello Hit Big Shots for the Pride Throughout the Game

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener women's basketball saw a career-best 11 points from Kimberly Casiello, as the Pride beat the Hood College Blazers 61-49.

The Pride are 17-4 in the regular season. They are 7-3 in MAC play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jordan D'Ambrosio led the team with 14 points. Casiello tied Mary McFillin for a team-high three triples each.
  • Gianna Samuels had three of Widener's 12 steals.
  • The Pride's 46% overall shooting and 41.2% from three were both in the top five for best shooting performances of the season. The latter was third.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HOOD
  • After some early misses from both sides, and two buckets from the Blazers, the Pride got on the board with a Lindsay Kutz layup. The two sides would trade shots for a few possessions before Casiello hit a three-pointer. She would hit two total three-pointers in the quarter, as the visitors kept up with the Pride. Through one quarter, the score was tied at 12.
  • Hood began the second quarter with a 6-2 run in the initial two minutes. Kaitlyn Kearney converted a layup before the Blazers went up six on a triple. Just over a minute later, the deficit was erased on back-to-back threes by Casiello and Samuels. It would be part of a 10-0 run to end the half for the Pride. D'Ambrosio would score the final points on a layup. Widener led 26-22 going into the locker room.
  • As Mia Robbins hit the first shot of the half, the visitors immediately answered. The Blazers couldn't capitalize on two Widener turnovers, and the Pride would eventually get two foul shots from Robbins. It was the beginning of a monster run for Widener, as they scored 18 unanswered to lead 46-26. Although the Blazers snapped the streak with a jumper, McFillin countered with a triple 12 seconds later. The two sides got a jumper in before the quarter expired. Widener led 51-32 after three.
  • Lia Samuels scored the first three points of the fourth quarter on a free throw and layup. The Pride remained in control for the first half of the quarter, going up by 23 with 5:43 left. With three minutes left, Hood attempted a comeback that was beyond too late. It was a 13-2 push for the visitors, but the Pride had the game wrapped up by that point. The Pride won 61-49 and swept the Blazers in the season series.
