CHESTER, Pa. – A slow first half for Widener Men's Basketball ends in a second half script flip over York to remain undefeated in the Schwartz Center.
The 84-62 win improves their record to 21-3 in the regular season and 11-2 in MAC Commonwealth play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kevin Schenk tied his career high with 27 points in his 32 minutes of play.
- Dominic Dunn snagged another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Four Pride players saw double digit points.
- Defensively, Schenk put career high four blocks while Howie Rankine stole five balls.
- The Pride shot 48.4% from the field and 46.7% from three.
- In the 40 minutes, they saw 48 points in the paint and capitalized on turnovers with 27 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A defensive start for the Pride began with a Schenk block a minute into the game. Steven Matlack hit a layup to get the Pride on the board. On the next offensive possession, Matlack would see the first triple for the Pride. Dunn would go on to tie the game at nine with 15:58 on the clock. The first lead change of the game happened with 14:01 as Dunn drained a triple. Matt Daulerio extended the lead with a good layup to give the Pride a four-point lead. The Spartans would climb back into the game and take the lead back but Schenk would keep it close with two layups and a free throw. Heading into halftime, the Pride were down 38-34.
- Out of halftime, Schenk saw the first points for both sides as the tables began to turn. Schenk's layup would start a 21-2 run to bring the Den back into the game. Of the 21 Pride points, Schenk owned 15 of them. Mixed in the Pride run were points from Dunn, Matlack, and Rankine. Schenk showed his poise with back to back layups which led into a dunk off a Mike Kane ball. To close out the run, the Pride would lead 54-40. Under the halfway mark of the half, Luke Mazur drained a triple to push the lead back to 13 while Schenk added another block to allow Dunn to put in a layup. Late in the game, Anthony DiCaro would shoot two free throws off a flagrant foul and then drain a triple to send the Schwartz Center in a roar with two seconds on the shot clock. A Kane triple and Matlack layup extended the lead to 21 as Rankine put in five of the six points to end the game with an 84-62 win. In the second half, the Blue and Gold put up season high 50 points in the second half of a game.
