CHESTER, Pa. – Second half slow put Widener Men's Basketball in trouble in a five-point loss over Swarthmore on Tuesday (Nov. 26) evening.
The 81-76 loss moves the Pride to 1-4 in the regular season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Leading the Pride was Myles Bright with season high 20 points.
- Kevin Schenk puts in 12 with seven rebounds.
- Defensively, Schenk put up season high four blocks and registered a steal.
- The Pride would shoot 57.6% from the floor, 35.3% from three, and earn 52 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A fast start for the Pride would begin with a Schenk jumper. Bright began his scoring campgain with back-to-back layups after a Garnet turnover. Xavier Ernest pushed the lead to five after a good layup. A Daulerio triple at 15:04 helped push the lead back to five after a Luke Mazur defensive rebound and assist. A battle under the rim would favor Schenk as he put in a good layup. At the 13:41 minute mark, Jacob Aryee brought it to the house after a steal and fast-break dunk to pump the crowd. The Pride took a four-point lead. Kori Segich put in two while Bright's charity stripe shot made the lead seven. Aryee's triple answered a Garnet triple while Daulerio put in two layups to make the lead nine. Points feel on both sides with the lead rocking towards the Pride by seven points for the majority of the half. Bright would go ahead and put in a layup and triple to keep the scoring up. Aryee wrapped up scoring to send the Pride into half with a 47-42 lead.
- Right off the bat, Schenk put in a layup while Daulerio answered a Garnet triple once again. The Pride would take a timeout to regain after a Schenk block. At the 16:15 mark, Bright pushed the lead to three. Ethan Dodson saw some of his first points of the second at the 14:18 minute mark to answer a Paquette layup. The Pride offense would begin to tire as the Garnet would go on a quick 6-0 streak to take the lead. The short run would spark a Pride 7-0 run to take a six-point lead that ended with an Alex Mostashari triple just outside the halfway mark. Beginning at 8:07, the Pride would struggle to put in points and turnovers began to pile on. With 2:09 left, Bright would end the drought with a layup to tie the game at 74. The Pride would fall seven points behind from charity stripe points and Schenk wrapped up the game with a good dunk to fall 81-76.
