CHESTER, Pa. -The Pride built a sizable lead early in the game but were unable to contain the #9 Christopher Newport Captains.
The Pride fall to 2-3 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Mia Robbins had another good day scoring 19 points with a 52.9% field goal percentage.
- Lindsey Kutz flew around the court all day and had a team best 10 rebounds on the day.
- Mary McFillin got her teammates involved, leading the team with 5 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride would jump out to an early 7-5 lead when Lindsay Kutz drained the first three of the game. Widener would then increase their lead to six thanks to two free throws by Kaitlyn Kearney and a two-point jumper from Riley Stackhouse. The Captains would bring the game within two before Kimberly Casiello drained a three to put The Pride ahead by five. A Kutz to Stack house layup would finish out the quarter with the Pride holding on to a 23-21 lead.
- The Pride came out for the second quarter on fire as Mia Robbins hit a layup and Riley Stack house drained a three to bring The Pride lead to seven. Christopher Newport would bring the game within one before Kimberly Casiello hit a three to bring the Pride lead to four. The Captains then tied the game at 33 before going on a 9-0 run to bring the score to 42-33. Mia Robbins hit a layup as time expired to bring the score to 42-35 before halftime.
- The third quarter was not kind to the Pride as the Captains jumped out to a 61-39 lead. Stackhouse would stop the bleeding by drawing a foul and hitting both her free throws before Robbins would connect on a layup and a two-point jump shot. Lindsay Kutz finished out the half by hitting a three to further cut into the Captains lead.
- Widener carried over their momentum from the end of the fourth as Mary McFillin and Avalynn hit consecutive jump shots to bring the game within 10. Christopher Newport would take back to momentum extending their lead to 19 with 4:20 left to play. The Pride were unable to overcome this deficit, and the game would end with a final score of 88-65.
