ASTON, Pa. – A double digit win for Widener Men's Basketball helps earn them the first season win.
The 87-73 win moves the Pride to 1-3 in the regular season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Jacob Aryee led from beyond the arc with 15 points.
- Luke Mazur commanded the offense with three triples and 19 points.
- Kevin Schenk would register eight rebounds while Matt Daulerio dished seven assists.
- Defensively, Aryee earned three steals and picked up a block.
- The Pride shot 53.6% from the floor, 54.5% from the arc, and would earn 36 points in the paint with the largest lead being 17 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride open the stretch of 40 minutes with the ball right off tip-off. A slow start for the Pride would be ended as Myles Bright sunk a jumper to tie the game at 18:38. A minute later, Mazur jumper got him on the board while Xavier Ernest was sent to the charity stripe to change the lead over. Back-to-back triples from Mazur and Kevin Schenk would pull the Pride to a three-point lead just outside the halfway mark. Aryee got himself on the board at the 11:29 minute mark with a triple and a Daulerio assist. Another Aryee triple would begin his hot stretch of the game. Mazur jacked in a triple to sink that while Aryee continued for nine points. The Blue and Gold found their groove as triples sunk to push the lead to 42-27 at the 5:32 minute mark. Heading into halftime, Aryee sunk another triple and earned a steal just over a minute left to send Ethan Dodson into a jumper to push the lead to 14. The Pride headed into half with a 49-38 lead.
- Right out of half Daulerio put up a layup to get the ball rolling. An offensive groove helped as Schenk, Ernest, and Mazur put up layups. Points after points fell for the Pride to force a Knight's timeout at the 14:25 mark to try and slow the attacking Pride. 12:33 would mark another Daulerio triple to make the lead 15. Aryee earned three shots after a DJ Earl foul where he hit all three to make the lead 72-57. At the halfway mark, the Knights began to climb back but Daulerio sunk a free to throw to push the lead back to double digits. Ernest's layup at 4:53 would push the lead to 10 again. Schenk picked up a steal to allow the Pride to earn triple offensive rebounds before drawing a foul. Two missed free throws for the Knights would help the Pride draw a foul to send Mazur to the charity stripe for two shots. Daulerio hit a layup after a Mazur steal to force a Knights timeout at the 1:59 mark. The Pride would end with an 87-73 win.
