Ryan Pattison and Widener Football strike 17 second half points for come from behind win.
The 24-21 win moves the pride to an even 4-4 in the regular season and 4-3 in the MAC rankings.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Michael Caloiaro led the Pride at quarterback with a touchdown and 113 passing yards.
- Dalton Wickel netted 82 yards on the ground with a long of 34 while Bryce Casey punched in another touchdown to net 81 yards.
- Zack Vansovich snagged a touchdown and two receptions.
- A new season high in tackles for Luke Shaeffer would lead the Pride defense with seven.
- The Pride would have a total of 326 offensive yards and went 2-for-2 in the red zone.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride begin the game with a coin toss win and a deferral. The first play of the game, Shaeffer would give the Pride the ball back with an interception to set up the offense on the LVC39. The offense would move slow and attempt a field goal that would be blocked as the game remained at zero. The next offense series would see Casey on the ground with almost 20 yards before a punt. The first ended with the Flying Dutchmen up 7-0.
- Right out of the gate in the second, Caloiaro led the Pride down the field with Casey punching in a 10-yard rush to tie the game at seven. A forced fumble by Alexander Cintron would set the Pride up on the LVC47 with 3:36 left in the second. The series was halted with a short three and out while the Pride headed into halftime with a seven points deficit.
- A halftime reset would give the Pride life as Luke Shimko recovered a Flying Dutchmen fumble and take it to the house to tie the game at 14. The defense answered with Shaeffer adding tackles to force a 48-yard field goal that would be wide. Both teams would have back and forth series before the 2:54 Pride series to give them the lead. A 23-yard catch and run for Vanscovich would put the Pride up seven with just over two left in the third. The score was 21-14. Cintron picked off a ball in the endzone to end the quarter and give the Pride the ball, first and ten on the WID20.
- To begin the fourth the Blue and Gold held a long offensive series to chew 10 minutes of clock. The series would result in a field goal from Pattison to extend the lead to 10 as Wickel picked up ground yards. The cards were in the Pride hands as Nasim Abdullah forced a fumble on the kickoff to allow Pattison to recover. With under four left, the Pride would give up a touchdown to make the score 24-21. The Widener offense did their job to eat more clock giving the Flying Dutchmen a last chance effort that would fall short. The Pride come home with a 24-21 win.
