CHESTER, Pa. – First home game for Widener Men's Basketball results in tough loss to Hamilton in the first day of Widener's Tip-Off for Autism Awareness Tournament.
The 81-54 loss moves the Pride to 0-2 in the regular season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Matt Daulerio led the Pride with a team high 14 points and two blocks.
- Off the bench, Kori Segich would score eight.
- Alex Mostashari had team high four rebounds with four points and two steals.
- The Pride shot 34% from the floor, 23.1% from three, and saw 30 points in the paint.
- Leads changed six times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Luke Mazur would kick things off for the pride with a good layup to answer a triple from the Continentals. A fast pace game appeared early as just two minutes in Daulerio would put in a layup to make the game 7-4. Daulerio began heating up as he would score the next four points to give the Pride a 8-7 lead. Kevin Schenk hit a good layup to while Daulerio put up a block to let Schenk head into a fast break layup. The tempo of the game continued to pick up as Schenk put in another layup to take a 16-15 lead with 9:43 on the clock. A slow stretch of offense for the Pride would be capitalized by the Continentals as they would go on a 16-2 run until Segich would hit the first Pride triple. Xavier Ernest would end the half at the charity stripe to send the Pride to the locker room down 42-25 at half.
- Out of the half, Daulerio would put up the first points for either team with a layup. A hot Continental offense would cause problems for the Pride. The Continetals would hit a 14-0 run until free throws from Segich would break that and allow Myles Bright to come up with a steal. Off the Bright steal, Mazur would put up a quick two off a fast break to try and cut into the lead. At the halfway mark of the second, the Pride found themselves down 64-39 after Segich had another trip to the charity stripe. Mostashari hit a triple at 5:21 to bring the deficit to 21 while the Pride struggled with earlier turnovers. The game would end with the final points being given to the Pride by Sean Mizzoni on a good jumper with 12 seconds left. The Pride would fall 81-54 in their home opener.

Widener returns for day two of the Tip-Off for Autism Awareness Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. The Pride will face 1-1 (0-0 Landmark) Catholic Cardinals in the consolation game.
