Schenk puts up 21 in a Close Battle with RV Catholic in Day Two

Three Pride players over double digits

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball try to answer a tough season start with a consolation game against RV Catholic in the second day of the Tip-Off for Autism Awareness Tournament.
 
The Pride would fall 79-67 to move to 0-3 in the regular season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Kevin Schenk led the Pride with 21 points in 34 minutes.
  • Luke Mazur would follow with 19.
  • Defensively, Schenk, Mazur, and Ethan Dodson would be credited with a block each.
  • The Pride would shoot 42.9% from the floor, 40% from three, and see 28 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Matt Daulerio quickly got things going for the Pride with a good triple. Schenk would answer with one of his own and then put up a layup to quickly go up eight. Myles Bright would drain a triple at the 15:10 mark to make the score 11-6. Triples rained in as Alex Mostashari to tie the game at 16. Mazur hit another to answer a layup from the Cardinals. No one could hold a lead as the score bounced back and forth by one for seven minutes. With under five left, Daulerio was sent the charity stripe for two free shots. Schenk closed out scoring for the half to send the Pride into the break down six. The score was 44-38.
  • Schenk opened scoring in the second at the 19:10. Seconds later he would hit a triple to cut the lead to three. The Pride would take a timeout at the 16:48 mark to draw up a plan. At 15:47 Mazur hit a triple to bring the deficit to four. The Cardinals would find a groove with a 14-0 run before Schenk ended the run with a good layup. Mazur and Daulerio found charity stripe shots to help soften the deficit. Dodson and Schenk ended scoring before falling 79-67. 
UP NEXT
Widener hits the road to close by Aston, Pa. for a non-conference game against the 3-1 (0-0 Atlantic East) Neumann Knights. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
