CHESTER, Pa. – A packed pool and loud atmosphere helped Widener Women's Swimming to a 2-1 day on Homecoming 2024.
On the afternoon, the Pride would down Hood (213-39) and King's (216-13) but fall to Messiah (161.50-98.50). The 2-1 weekend moves the Pride to 2-2 in the regular season and 2-1 in MAC standings.
OF NOTE
Widener celebrated the 1994 MAC Championship Team along with welcoming back alumni from prior years.
Women's Swimming celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month with pink caps.
HOW IT HAPPENED
To open the long afternoon of racing with a 2-3 finish in the 200-yard medley relay. To take second,
Caroline Anderson,
Olivia Barclay,
Kylie Rodi, and
Hailey Webster clocked in a 1:59.02 as
Sophia Sapnas,
Anna Durboraw,
Sally Meyers, and
Olivia Giambalvo split the results with a 2:01.54.
Lauren Kalsbeek took first overall with a 11:27.92 in the 1000-yard freestyle where she would hold a 35 second 50-yard split.
Sally Meyers and
Megan Shallow took second and third in the 200-yard freestyle. Meyers clocked in a 2:02.86 while Shallow stopped the clock in a 2:04.05.
First year Barclay would race to a 1:14.66 in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn points for the Pride.
Meyers snagged another second in her 200-yard butterfly with a 2:22.54.
In the splash and dash 50-yard freestyle, Kalsbeek dominated the field with a 25.81 with
Olivia Downs sneaking into third with a 26.86 to out touch a Messiah swimmer by 0.02.
Shallow tied for first in the 100-yard freestyle with a 56.90 marking her best collegiate 100-yard time.
Jenna Angelucci and Sapnas went 2-3 in the 200-yard backstroke. Angelucci led the charge with a 2:25.18 as Sapnas finished close behind in a 2:15.40.
Distance swimmer Meyers clocked in a 5:42.58 in the 500-yard freestyle to take third overall finishing with a three second cushion on each side.
Kaitlyn Fahy snagged a second place finish in her 100-yard butterfly with a final time of 1:06.66 to mark to set a new season benchmark.
Kalsbeek wrapped up her individual swimming in the 200-yard individual medley by taking third with a 2:23.89 with first year
Tyla Block clocking in a 2:29.03.
The Pride concluded racing with a second win over Messiah in the 200-yard freestyle relay as the quad of Shallow, Webster, Giambalvo, and Kalsbeek finished in a 1:44.97.
