CHESTER, Pa. - Field Hockey played a great defensive game but was taken down by the national #9 team in York College.Â
The Pride fall to 5-7 and 1-1 in conference play.Â

The Pride supported Breast Cancer awareness in this game, spotlighting Karen Culver. Karen is the mother of sophomore midfielder Alina Culver, who has been cancer free for 12 years after being diagnosed with ductal carcinoma.Â

The Pride locked the Spartans down in the first quarter, as Abby Blake would record three saves and Meredith Marsteller would save a shot as well. None of the six total York shots would result in a point, and the game would be scoreless after the first.Â

Widener continued the defensive intensity in the second quarter, this time facing five shots and not allowing a goal. Marsteller would pick up her second defensive saves and Blake would tack on four saves to her total, as the scoreless tie would remain going into the half.Â

The Prides defense would give out after a long effort in the fourth quarter, allowing two goals near the end of the game. Blake would stay strong, picking up five goals in the quarter with Maddie Hoyer also being credited with a defensive save as Widener would ultimately lose 0-3.Â
