HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The Pride found their hot hand early in the first half, as Howie Rankine's layup was the first points of the night. Before the Eagles could find the bottom of the net, Widener was up 14-0 thanks to Anthony DiCaro's back-to-back three pointers. Rankine and DiCaro would punish Eastern in the paint until the starters got a rest up 19-7. The Eagles would then go on a bit of a run until Mike Kane and Luke Mazur caught fire, sinking threes and pushing the lead further. DiCaro would continue his strong performance as he returned to action and Dominic Dunn began to find his stride, hitting step back jumpers and even a hook shot in the stretch. DiCaro would hit another two three-pointers before Kevin Schenk wrapped up the half with a layup and a three to beat the buzzer as the Pride went into halftime up 48-29.
-
The second half would see both teams trading buckets, with Dominic Dunn hitting his first two shots in the half from behind the arc. The team would continue to have their way in the paint, continuing to find back door cuts that led to easy points as Dunn would continue to feast from the perimeter. It seemed like he couldn't miss as he punished Eastern in the second half, and the court spacing allowed Rankine, Schenk, and Steven Matlack to get to work on the post and hit multiple layups and fade-aways. Rankine's two free throws extended the lead to 28, and the Pride finished the game with a dominating 87-69 win.
