CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball flips the script in a 78-62 win over Hood to remain unbeaten in the Schwartz Center.
The 78-62 pushes the Pride to a three-game win streak and 18-3 in the regular season. The Pride improve to an 8-2 record in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Dominic Dunn and Howie Rankine pick up double-doubles. Dunn with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Rankine with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
- Rankine led the defense with three steals while Dunn and Kevin Schenk pick up a block.
- The Pride out rebound the Blazers 46 to 35.
- The Pride held a lead for 38:30 minutes and saw the largest lead with 19 points.
- From the field, the Blue and Gold shot 38.7% and 34 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Slow starts from both sides of the ball were ended with a Dunn jumper. Schenk picked up a block on defense and then was sent to the charity stripe to hit two free throws. Steven Matlack extended the lead with a good triple to start a 10-0 run. During the run, Matlack drained another while Rankine capped it off with a good layup. As halfway approached, Xavier Ernest put in a good layup to make the score 20-5. A Pride line change allowed Schenk to put in a layup. With 3 minutes remaining, the Pride and Blazers took shots at each other but Dunn highlighted the stat lines with three triples in a row and a good jumper to add 11 points to the Blue and Gold's numbers. Anthony DiCaro capped the half with a good jumper after a Dunn rebound.
- To open the half, Matt Daulerio's jumper found net to give the Pride a 14-point lead. Five minutes into the half, DiCaro drained another triple to put the lead back to 14. On defense, the Blue and Gold struggled with the tempo Blazer offense as they climbed back to hover the lead at single digits at the halfway point of the half. Schenk's free throw was followed up by Ernest's and Dunn's layup put the lead to 12. With six minutes remaining, Rankine started a 12-2 run to end the game. Free throws from Mike Kane and jumpers from Dunn extended the lead to 17. Schenk's jumper with 1:43 left sent the Pride to the locker rooms with a 78-62 win to remain undefeated in from of the Den.

Widener takes a midweek trip to the Messiah Falcons in Grantham, Pa. for a 7 p.m. tip. Game time is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 7.
