FREDERICK, Md. – In the first game of the New Year, the Widener Men's Basketball team fell to Hood in the first MAC Commonwealth contest.
The 95-70 loss gives the Pride their second loss of the season to fall to 10-2 and 0-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Anthony DiCaro led the Pride with 12 points.
- Steven Matlack shot a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
- Dominic Dunn would snag 10 rebounds with eight points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A Blazer favored rim gave the Pride a slow start to the game as Matlack earned the first points on a free throw attempt two minutes in. A dry period from the Pride was broken with a DiCaro triple to cut the lead to three out of a timeout. Mike Kane cashed in on an And-1 layup to make the score 12-8 Blazers. Just over halfway through the half, DiCaro drained his second triple to lead into a Matt Daulerio layup. Dominic Dunn would see his first points of the game with 8:28 remaining. Luke Mazur's triple cut into the lead while Kane did the same a couple minutes later. Heading into halftime, Xavier Ernest and Howie Rankine hit layups to trail 58-41.
- Looking to overcome a 17-point deficit, Mazur hit a quick triple out of halftime with Rankine hitting one himself a minute later. Daulerio snagged a layup to make the score 62-49. The Pride's defense struggled as the Blazers pushed the lead out to 20 but DiCaro pulled the game back with a triple from Myles Bright as the halfway mark approached. The Pride's offense hit a dry spell that was ended at 7:01 from Matlack on a triple from Kevin Schenk. Matt Johnson would hit the final points for the Pride on a free throw to end 95-70.
