Women’s Basketball Sweeps Stevenson Mustangs in Saturday Matinee

Jordan D'Ambrosio Put up 27 Points and Six Steals

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – With a 70-57 win for Widener women's basketball on Saturday, they swept the season series over the Stevenson University Mustangs.

The Pride are 15-4 in the regular season. They are 5-3 in MAC play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jordan D'Ambrosio had a career-high, and team-high, 27 points. She also tied her career-high in steals (six).
  • Lindsay Kutz grabbed five of Widener's eight offensive rebounds.
  • The Pride did not make a single triple, but they were 22-29 from the foul line (75.9%).
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON
  • After a free throw from Mia Robbins, Widener recorded their first bucket on a Kutz jumper off a Mary McFillin steal. The Mustangs got their lead to six midway through the first quarter. Even with a few shots from the Pride, the home team went up 18-10 on their third triple of the quarter. Widener chipped away at the deficit on some layups and free throws, but Stevenson led 22-19 after one.
  • The Mustangs opened the second set of 10 minutes with a 6-1 run. The halfway point of the quarter saw both teams go cold shooting-wise, as the Pride were missing shots, and the Mustangs kept turning the ball over. A Robbins' jumper at 4:13 broke the cold streak. Stevenson scored six in a row before Widener answered with four in a row to end the quarter. The home team led 34-29 at halftime.
  • Widener's first make of the half was immediately countered with a Stevenson triple. The Pride's comeback attempts were successful, as a 9-0 run put them up by one point. The two sides went back and forth with a one-point lead until D'Ambrosio hit a jumper to go up three. The Pride would have an advantage of as much as eight points before the quarter ended. Widener led 51-44 through three.
  • No one scored initially in the fourth quarter until D'Ambrosio connected on a jumper at 7:41. This was when Widener began pulling away from Stevenson. Some free throws and a D'Ambrosio jumper put the Pride up 10. Robbins hit the final shot with 22 seconds, but the game was out of reach for the home team. The Pride won 70-57.
