Pride Receivers Have a Field Day in 57-7 Win On The Road

Holmes, Baxter, Hostetter, Herr add TD to dominating win

 READING, Pa. – First road game ends in a dominating 57-7 win to remain undefeated against the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
 
Widener moves to 3-0 on the season and picks up their second MAC win of the season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Chase Diehl throws four touchdowns for 259 yards.
  • Michael Caloiaro throws perfect 4-for-4 for 76 yards and a long of 53.
  • On the ground, Shawn Thompson rushes for 106 and a TD.
  • Malachi Holmes scores first TD of the season with two receptions for 109 yards.
  • Pride defense led by Bryant Waters holds Golden Wolves to seven with six tackles.
  • On the day, the Pride totals 551 of offense to the Golden Wolves 135.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride open the afternoon with a quick 1 play 50-yard drive to score a touchdown from Diehl-Hostetter combination. Two minutes later with 12:26 remaining, Devin Ahmed returns a 5-yd punt return to put the Pride up 14.
  • Kevin Davis adds a pass break up on third down to give the Pride the ball with 3:18 in the second. Diehl would march the Pride down the field to chew three off the clock as Ian Herr grabs a 16-yard Diehl pass to score.
  • The third quarter showcased a wide receiver field day with three touchdowns and a field goal for Ryan Pattison. Jordan Baxter grabs a 27-yard pass from Diehl on one play to make the score 38-7. Thompson punches a 3-yard rush to add seven while Holmes caps a 2 play, 64-yard drive to push the score to 52-7.
  • A Golden Wolves safety ends the scoring on the day as the Pride pin the Golden Wolves at the ALV5 to start the drive. A Thomas Nigro pass break up, Matt Harrer tackle, and Brendon Hardy tackle for loss give the Pride a safety as the clock ticked under 5:15.

Widener will stay on the road to face 2-1 Stevenson Mustangs in Owings Mills, Md. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
