Men’s Soccer Still Scorching Hot as Widener Downs Neumann

Will Cole's Clutch Goal Lifted the Pride

ASTON, Pa. – Widener men's soccer remained undefeated on Wednesday with a win versus the Neumann University Knights 2-1.

The Pride are 4-0-0 in the regular season. They will play their first conference match against the York College Spartans on Sept. 30.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Widener had 17 shots (five on goal). Neumann had 10 shots (five on goal).
  • The Pride won the battle of corner kicks 5-4.
  • In goal, Ryan Van Pelt made four saves and allowed one goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NEUMANN
  • Christian Doyle's streak of goals continued. He has scored one goal in all four matches. He also leads the team with eight points.
  • On the Doyle goal, Stefano Turano picked up his first assist of the year.
  • Will Cole's goal was his first of the season, and it was recorded in the 87th minute to break the tie. A moment before, Sean Fatiga's shot was saved by Neumann goalie Seth Walker.
  • The Knights had more fouls than the Pride, 11-5.
  • Three Pride players had three or more shots: Jordi Lopez (three), Michael Donaghy (three), and Fatiga (four).
