CHESTER, Pa. – With the Pride's opening match tied 1-1 late, Widener senior defender
Christian Doyle scored the winning goal against the United States Coast Guard Academy Bears. The Pride won 2-1. This match was part of the Garnet Alumni Classic.
The Pride are 1-0-0 in the regular season. They see their first conference opponent, the York College Spartans, on Sept. 30.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD ACADEMY
- Not only did first-year Jordi Lopez score his first career goal with the Pride, but he also scored Widener's first goal of the season.
- Ryan Van Pelt stood his ground in goal, making three saves compared to none by the Bears.
- The Pride won the battle of yellow cards, as the Bears had six. Widener only had two.
- Widener had two of six shots on goal (33.3%). Four of the Coast Guard's 10 shots were on goal (40%).
- Widener saw a balanced attack regarding shots. Each of the Pride's six shots were taken by a different player.

The Pride will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 3, as they will host the Rosemont College Ravens. It will be the second of two games played in the Garnet Alumni Classic. The match will begin at 12 p.m.
