Men's Lacrosse Falls to Eastern on the Road

Sporer, Haverstrom see four goal each

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - The Widener men's lacrosse traveled to take on Eastern in MAC Conference play but were unable to walk away with the win. The Eagles topped the Pride 22-14, putting the Pride at 4-6 on the season and 1-1 in MAC Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN

After two minutes, the Eastern offense got things moving to start the game with a goal. The Pride was quick to answer as Connor Heisman scored Widener's first goal a minute later. The Eagles saw two more goals but Wesley Sporer was quick to get the Pride back on track with two back-to-back goals, putting the score at 3-4 in favor of Eastern. Widener was unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the period, but Eastern went on to score four more goals.

Coming out in the second period, looking to gain the lead, Nick DiCicco scored off a draw control to start the offensive effort. Wesley Sporer found a way to score again and put the score at 5-11 with 9:53 remaining in the half. The Eagles went on to score five more goals and the two teams head into halftime with the score of 15-5.

The Pride came out of the half ready to close the score gap and Sam Haverstrom scored with 14:22 on the clock from a Nick DiCicco assist. A minute later Drew Vennit found Wesley Sporer for another goal and then two minutes later, Sam Haverstrom scored back-to-back goals with assists from Matt Buckley and Nick Brennan. Down by six goals with 8:39 on the clock, Nick. DiCicco scored for Widener off a Connor Heisman assist. Heisman and DiCicco went on to collectively score three more goals for the Blue and Gold, closing the score gap to just four goals.

A slower start to the offenses kept both defenses on their toes. An Eastern goal at 9:56 put the score at 18-13 and the Eagles went on to score three more goals. At 8:15, Nicholas Knepp found Haverstrom for another Widener goal. This goal would be the last for the Pride as they finish the game with a final score of 22-14.

The Pride travel to Hood College to take on the Blazers on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
