HOW IT HAPPENED AT STOCKTON TURF FIELD
After a few missed shots from the Pride early in the first quarter,
Samuel Haverstrom made the team's first goal of the evening. The Ospreys were down a man due to a pushing penalty. Moments later, Stockton would score twice in under 40 seconds to go up 2-1. Both were assisted by Stockton's Dante Poli. An Ospreys' turnover would give the Pride momentum on offense. A successful clear attempt eventually turned into a goal, courtesy of
Connor Heisman.
Nicholas Knepp would add to the Pride's total to get the score to 3-2 Widener. With 2:26 left,
Jimmy Knepp scored Widener's fifth goal of the quarter in another extra-man opportunity. Stockton had a man on the sidelines due to an illegal body check. Within the final 25 seconds of the quarter, both sides put one in the net, with the Pride's coming from Sporer. Widener led 6-4 after the initial 15 minutes.
Not long after the second quarter began, the Ospreys capitalized off a Widener turnover to score their fifth goal of the game. However, the Pride went on to score three straight goals. The first two were from Sporer, while the other was from Heisman. Widener led 9-5. Stockton answered back a minute later. With halftime being ten minutes away, Billie made some strong defensive stands. Before the Pride made their next goal, he had four saves and caused a turnover. The Ospreys cut their deficit to two points, but the Pride cashed in on one more goal for the quarter from Heisman. The score after the first half was 11-9 Widener.
While Widener would play with pride in the second half, Stockton's offense exploded out of the break. They scored with 13:59 left in the quarter to trim Widener's lead to 11-10. While Sporer's next goal would put Widener back up by two, the Ospreys would go on to score seven straight goals. The Pride's inability to force turnovers in the quarter was another factor going against them. Despite this, the Ospreys were charged with two penalties in the quarter: slashing, and an illegal body check. Stockton was up after three quarters, 17-12.
Like the previous 15 minutes, the Pride could not keep up with the Ospreys in the fourth quarter. Widener cashed in on their final goal of the game with 12:30 to go. Heisman's goal made the score 17-13 Stockton. But, the Ospreys once again scored seven straight times to run away with the game. Stockton had six turnovers in the quarter, including two that were caused by a Widener player. Stockton won 24-13.
