HOW IT HAPPENED AT QUICK STADIUM
The Pride opened up to a fast-paced Knights team.
Colyn Schmitz opened the shooting for the Pride with 13:10 on the board to try and counter the 4-0 Knights lead. After a Pride timeout, a Geneseo turnover, and good clear, Heisman ripped another shot that was saved. The Pride's first goal of the game came with 6:37 remaining in the first from a
Nicholas Knepp pass on a Heisman shot. A couple minutes later,
Wesley Sporer found the back of the cage to make the score 10-2. The team began to warm up with a few shots to end the quarter.
As the second quarter began,
Samuel Haverstrom opened with a shot to the crossbar which allowed Heisman to grab his second goal of the game. With 10:30 remaining,
Nicholas Knepp capitalized on a failed Knights clear with the Pride's fourth goal of the game from a Haverstrom pass. A string of Knights' goals led to a 15-4 lead until Heisman found a man-down goal with just under four on the board. Heisman's goal would lead into a
Jimmy Knepp goal with 12 seconds to end the first half.
Right out of halftime,
Matt Buckley found a lane to score his first of the game with 13:50 left. A scoring drought emerged for a large portion of the third while both teams tallied shots, ground balls, and successful clears. A Knights' goal broke the drought with 6:44 remaining in the third. Less than a minute later,
Bryant Maits saw a scoring opportunity from a Heisman assist. As the third ticked down, Geneseo picked up another goal to go into the fourth quarter with a 17-8 lead.
The Blue and Gold capitalized on an illegal cross-check and an extra-man opportunity with a Sporer goal with 11:21 left in the game. The Knights answered right back. The score was 19-9. As tensions rose, the scoring drought came through again for both sides. During such time the Pride picked up shots from Maits and Haverstrom on the offensive side and a caused turnover from
Drew Venit. Coming out of a timeout,
Nicholas Knepp had the go-ahead goal with 2:39 on the clock to make the score 20-10. Heisman and
Nicholas Knepp would attempt to cut the lead to under double digits with a shot a piece with just under one left. On the evening the team would take 41 shots, go 22-27 (81%) on clears, and add 15 saves to goalie stats.
