CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore
Maria Muzzarelli of Widener women's indoor track and field is on her way to the 2023 NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships. She will be in Birmingham, Ala. on March 10-11 to compete.
Muzzarelli recorded a time of 7.68 seconds in the 60-meter race, which led the conference this season. Some of her other accomplishments included placing second in 200 meters in the conference with 26.26 seconds. She also was a part of the first-place team for 4x200 meter relays, along with
Kelly Barr,
Emma Schultz,
Jayla Gore. Muzzarelli had the seventh-best time for long jump at 5.05m. All these distances and times were recorded on Feb. 24 at the 2023 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The 60-meter, 200-meter, and long jump were college-bests for her as well.
Muzzarelli is currently in a four-way tie for 17th in the nation for 60 meters. She ranks first for 60 meters in the MAC.
By winning the MAC Championships last month, Widener women's indoor track and field etched 2023 on their list of conference victories. The other was in 1994.
A Buena, N.J. native, Muzzarelli is a psychology/pre-occupational therapy major.
