CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener men's lacrosse team battled hard against the Washington College Shoremen at Quick Stadium but couldn't come out on top.
The Pride moves to 1-2 on the season and they have yet to see a MAC Commonwealth opponent.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WASHINGTON COLLEGE
Both teams came out ready to play and got off to a hot start. Widener scored the game's first goal two minutes in as
Wesley Sporer scored to put the Pride on the board. Washington College quickly responded with a goal less than a minute later, tying the score 1-1. Six more goals were scored in the next five miutes, each team answering their opponent's goal with one of their own. The Shoremen were able to a two-goal lead with ten minutes remaining in the first period but then
Jimmy Knepp found
Connor Heisman to lessen the Shoremen's lead. Soon after
Nick DiCicco found the back of the net from a
Wesley Sporer assist, putting the score at 5-4 with just less the four minutes on the clock. The Pride finish the first period down by one after
Bryant Maits scored and put the score at 6-5.
Looking to get the lead in the second period, the Pride offense struggled to find the back of the net while the Shoremen faced the opposite problem. The Shoremen scored eight goals in the second, capitalizing off of Pride turnovers. DiCicco, Maits and Haverstrom kept the Pride offense moving, each scoring a goal and putting the Pride at 14-8 going into halftime.
A goalie change for the Pride early in the third occurred as Billie Keegan was put in the net, hoping to get some stops for the Blue and Gold. Less than two minutes into the half,
Nick DiCicco found the back of the net from a Sporer assist. Widener's defense started to click in this period as they held the Shoremen to just three goals while the Pride scored five. Maits, Heisman, Sporer, Haverstrom, and
Jimmy Knepp all scored this period and the two teams enter the fourth with a score of 17-14.
Down by only three goals the Pride was looking to take over the lead in the fourth period. Washington College got to the net off the first draw of the period. Two minutes later,
Matt Buckley scored from a Sporer assist. The Pride was unable to stop the Shoremen from scoring the rest of the period and Washington College went on to score four more goals. A final Heisman goal, man up, with thirty seconds remaining put the score at 22-16 to finish the game.
