NYU INVITE RESULTS
NEW YORK & COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Numerous Widener school records fall as the men's and women's indoor track and field teams compete at the NYU Invite and Ursinus' Frank Colden Invite on Friday evening and Saturday.
The Friday evening of the first of two race days saw the teams traveling to New York City and New York University for their invitational that began at 5 p.m. The NYU Invite displayed a full event lineup.
For the men,
Samuel Knowles led the charge with a school record in the 400-meters with a time of 48.75. His time earned him first in the meet and a new personal best. Knowles' time ranks him first in the MAC and 15
th in the nation.
In the men's long jump,
Jacob Grossman earned himself a MAC qualification with a 6.0-meter mark.
For the women,
Maria Muzzarelli and
Jayla Gore tied for a school record in the 60-meter dash. Their 7.81 second run earned them 32
nd in the nation and a tie for first in the MAC rankings.
Muzzarelli added another top 10 performance in the 200-meter dash with a 26.80 which set a new personal best and ranks her 6
th in the conference.
Kelly Barr registered a 1:00.18 in the 400-meter race to break into the top 10 all time. Her time ranks her second in all time runs and third in the conference rankings.
In the 800,
Donna Holt and
Jaden Sweely also broke into the top 10 all time to rank third and fourth. Holt's 2:21.71 and Sweely's 2:22.19 rank them first and second in conference placing with just under a month to go until MAC Championships.
Gabby Nye,
Elizabeth Egan, and
Emily Cooney also had standout performances in the mile. Currently, Widener holds six of the top eight times in the conference standings. Nye's 5:09.80 ranks her second in school history while Egan's 5:18.82 puts her at fourth. Cooney rounds out the three with a 5:20.67 to rank sixth.
Sydni Bell's 9.59 in the 60-meter hurdles sets her at eighth all time. Her time set a new personal best.
On day two of the race days, the team traveled to the Frank Colden Invite hosted by Ursinus College.
On the men's side,
Alden Littlefield tied his season best in the shot put with a 15.69-meter mark to earn him second in the meet.
In the 400-meter race, Brian McNear placed fourth with a 53.11 while
Thomas Plunkett's 4:32.64 in the mile was good enough for a sixth-place finish.
On the women's side, Holt ran the ninth fastest time in school history in the mile less than 14 hours after her last race. Her time clocked in at 5:24.30.
All times from the past two days were MAC qualification times or marks.
UP NEXT
Widener returns to the track and field on Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11. Friday the teams will race at the Ocean Breeze meet and will race at the Plex Shootout hosted by Alvernia on Saturday. Race day will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
