Men’s Basketball to Face Hood in MAC Semifinals

Tip-off Set for 7 p.m.

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener men's basketball is looking to continue their strong season as they enter the playoffs. They will host the Hood College Blazers on Wednesday in the semifinals.

The Pride were 17-8 in the regular season, while going 11-5 in the MAC. Widener lost their final regular-season game 78-64 against the York College Spartans.

The Blazers had a 16-9 record with a 10-6 conference record. Hood finished their regular season at home with an 80-68 victory over the top-seeded Alvernia University Golden Wolves.

Widener played against Hood two times in the regular season. The Pride won both games. On Jan. 7 at Hood, the Pride were victorious by a score of 94-81. On Feb. 11, the Pride defended home court in a 92-82 decision. These games were two of Widener's highest-scoring performances of the season, with the one at Hood taking the top spot.

Graduate student Dominic Dunn was a shining star for Widener this year. He averaged a team-best 18.4 points, along with 7.5 rebounds and 2.04 assists per game. His rebounds and assists respectively ranked second and fourth for the Pride. Dunn converted 10 triples in a 33-point effort at Hood last month. Both were season-highs.

Graduate student Pat Holden has been a foundation at point guard. Holden averaged 14.2 points and a team-best four assists per game. He had 30 dimes more than the next player on the team. Like Dunn, he scored a season-best 25 points against Hood. However, Holden's season-high mark was on Widener's home court.

Junior Kevin Schenk provided Widener with another scorer in the starting five. He averaged 11.3 points and 2.2 assists per game. He was also the only player on the team to record double-digit blocks (15) on the season. Schenk hit a season-best four three-pointers back in December against Messiah.

The winner of this game will play on Saturday in the Conference Final to take on one of Alvernia or Eastern.
