CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Widener men's volleyball records ninth sweep on the season after topping Wilson 3-0 in their second matchup this season.
Following the sweep, the Pride move to 10-6 in regular season matches and remain 0-2 in MAC rankings.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GANNETT FIELD HOUSE
On the day, the Pride hit .250% over the three sets. Leading the Pride was
Josh Matchett with seven kills.
Ethan Cox picked up three aces while
Benjamin Heist dished out 19 assists. After three, Cox, Heist,
Kian Stevens, and
Kevin Stubbs registered a perfect hitting percentage.
Dylan Beer got things going for the Pride in set one with a quick two points from Heist. After a few back and forth points, the Pride a
Michael Martino kill from Heist and a Wilson attack error to make the score 7-6. Following a Wyatt Tribett kill for Wilson, the men proceeded to go on a 11-0 run to set the score at 18-7. Set one was topped off with a 7-3 run with kills from Matchett and Beer, service ace from Heist, and a few hitting errors. The Pride topped the Wilson 25-9 in the first set.
Matchett got the men on the board with a Stevens kill from a Heist set. The Pride earned two more points off a service error, attack error, and set error which set the score 5-2 early in set two. Cox went on to add another kill from a Martino dig and Heist set that sent the Pride on a 7-5 run. The men saw a two fast points off another service error and Wilson attack error. The score was 19-9. In the final points of set two, the Blue and Gold earned four service error points and a service ace from Cox. The final score of set two was 25-16.
Christ and Cox threw a block up to open set three. Following the Pride block, Wilson went on to tie the set at three a piece. The men answered with an 11-2 run to set the score 14-5. After a back and forth point war, Cox nabbed his final kill to top off his perfect day of hitting to make the score 16-8. With 25 points closer in sight, the Pride continued their hot streak with a 5-0 run ending in a
Nick Poulson kill which would force Wilson into their final two points of the match. The Blue and Gold would see their final points of set three from two service errors. Set three ended 25-14 to end the match 3-0 in favor of the Pride.
