Men’s Basketball Give Thanks in Post-Thanksgiving Win Over Salisbury

Steven Matlack shoots perfect 3-of-3 from three

CHESTER, Pa. – A post-Thanksgiving feast gives Widener Men's Basketball a commanding win over the Salisbury Sea Gulls in a Sunday afternoon tip-off.
 
 The 71-49 win advances the Pride to 5-1 in the regular season with the first MAC Commonwealth matchup set for just after New Year's.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Steven Matlack led the Pride with new season high 13 points with a rebound and assist.
  • Kevin Schenk and Dominic Dunn tallied eight rebounds apiece.
  • Five Pride players register a block.
  • Off the bench, Luke Mazur drained 9 points.
  • The Pride would shoot 49.2% from the floor and earn 33 points off the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride stormed out to a quick 11-0 lead within the first three minutes of tip-off. Two threes from Matlack and a three from Anthony DiCaro gave the Pride an 9-0 lead to force a Sea Gulls' timeout. A Dunn steal led to a fast break layup to extend the lead to 11. The Pride see their largest lead margin halfway through the half following a Matt Daulerio block. Mazur would hit a triple off a DiCaro ball to lead into a Myles Bright three for a 15-point lead. As the half ended, the Sea Gulls would climb back to a four-point deficit until Dunn hit a jumper in the paint to expire the half with a 36-30 lead.
  • Following suit, the Pride lazured out to an 8-0 run with two threes from Mazur and a layup from Schenk, the lead was back to 14. Another run halfway through the half gave the Pride a 20 point lead with a 9-0 run with a triple from Michael Kane, jumper in the paint from Bright, and a layup from Daulerio. Matlack would drain another three to shoot perfect from beyond the arc. To closeout the 71-49 win, Xavier Ernest and earn the final points for the Pride and pickup a block along side Jay-Nelly Reyes.

Widener faces the 3-1 MAC Freedom DeSales Bulldogs in a conference switchover game on Wednesday evening on the road. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
