Widener Men’s Basketball Bounce Back In Close Game Against Wooster on Saturday Afternoon

Dominic Dunn named to All-Tournament Team

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Widener Men's Basketball team overcomes deficit with 39 points in the second to take down Wooster 72-68.
 
The 72-68 win puts the Pride at 4-1 in the regular season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Howie Rankine would lead the Pride with 16 points, six rebounds, and five steals.
  • Dominic Dunn dropped 13 points with nine rebounds to be named to the All-Tournament Team.
  • Off the bench, Mike Kane and Matt Daulerio added 13 points a piece.
  • The Pride shot 45.5% from the floor and 42.9% from three.
  • The Pride would score 32 points in the paint and see 26 points from the bench.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN WOOSTER
  • The Pride strike first with a Steven Matlack layup. Rankine and Daulerio earn their first points of the game as Rankine puts in a layup and Daulerio drains a three. A Kane three seven minutes into the game puts the Pride back up three. A big back and forth battle from both sides keeps the game close with lead margins changing every minute. Heading into halftime, Rankine would take the final points for the Pride. The Pride trailed 37-33 at half and shot 44.83% from the floor.
  • Out of half, the Pride opened hot tying the game with Kevin Schenk hitting a jumper and a layup. Rankine would give the Pride a lead with a good three two minutes in. Three free throws for Daulerio following a Wooster foul gave the Pride a four- point lead. The Pride would extend the lead to its largest in the game at 11 points with Kane draining a three with 8:23 on the clock. As Wooster inched back into the game but as time was about to expire Rankine put in a layup and Schenk hit two free throws to end with a four-point lead. The second half, the Blue and Gold shot 46.15% from the floor and 44% from three.
