READING, Pa. - Despite losing to the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Saturday, Widener men's soccer took the win on Wednesday, 2-1, in the MAC Semifinals.
The Pride's season record is now at 13-3-2 (3-2-2 MAC).
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride had 15 shots (eight on goal). The Golden Wolves had 14 shots (seven on goal).
- Alvernia had five corner kicks, compared to three from Widener.
- Ryan Van Pelt made six saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- Alvernia started the match with an immediate shot. Ryan Cogill's shot at 35 seconds was too high. For Widener, Sean Fatiga had the Pride's first attempt at 7:43.
- The Golden Wolves got their lone goal of the night at the 13:03 mark in the first half. Four minutes later, however, Fatiga kicked in a goal on a Jordi Lopez assist. The score was now 1-1.
- The Pride would continue shooting, but Alvernia goalie Evan Solley's defense prevented any more potential goals.
- It would take almost 12 minutes into the second half for either side to take a shot attempt. At 76:44, Widener would score the goal to put the match away. Monsif Atify scored on a Kevin Witkoski assist.
- The Golden Wolves had a few more shot attempts at the end of regulation, but they were unsuccessful.
- Fatiga led the Pride with five shots (three on goal). Max Hartke and Michael Donaghy each had three shots.
- Out of the four yellow cards assessed in the match, Widener had one. Atify was charged with a yellow card at 87:53.

The Pride advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship on Saturday, Nov. 4. They will travel to Mechanicsburg, Pa. to face the Messiah University Falcons at 3 p.m.
