READING, Pa. – Widener men's soccer, even with a 2-0 loss to the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Saturday, are on their way to the playoffs.
The Pride finished the regular season with a 12-3-2 record. They were 3-2-2 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride had 12 shots (six on goal). The Golden Wolves had nine shots (four on goal).
- Alvernia had 20 fouls, compared to just 13 from Widener.
- Ryan Van Pelt made two saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- Widener played good defense in the first half until 28:45, where they allowed their first goal. The other Alvernia goal would be at 53:45, in the second half.
- The Pride wasted no time in their attack. Michael Donaghy took a shot at 2:05 into the match. However, it was saved by Alvernia goalie Evan Solley.
- Ryan Toporowski led the Pride with three shots (two on goal). Three players had two shots each: Jordi Lopez, Max Hartke, and Sean Fatiga.
- The Pride had four corner kicks. The Golden Wolves had five.
- There were seven yellow cards assessed in this match. Three went to Widener, specifically to Kevin Witkoski, Hartke, and Christian Doyle.
