READING, Pa. – Widener football pushed the win streak against the Albright College Lions to five in a dominating win on the road.
The 48-3 win puts the Pride at 5-2 on the season and 4-2 in the MAC.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride offense put up 325 total yards to the Lion's 42.
- Chase Diehl threw for 124 yard while Michael Caloiaro added 81 to his name and a touchdown pass.
- On the ground, Shawn Thompson led with 36 yards but added two touchdowns.
- In the air, Jordan Baxter saw a 40-yard pass to make up more than half of his 78 yards.
- Colin Murt stood as a brick wall with 10 tackles, a tackle for loss, and sack.
- The Pride defense would hold the Lions to 0.7 yards per play.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN READING
- Ryan Pattison got things going for the Pride just five minutes into the game with a 31-yard field goal to cap a 7-play, 43-yard drive.
- Thompson's ground skills added seven for the Pride four minutes later in a 4-play, 50-yard drive. Minutes later Pattison added another field goal, this time from 45-yards out. The score after one was 13-0 in favor of the Pride.
- Twelve seconds into the second, Thompson punched a 9-yard rush to extend the score while Pattison drilled the extra point. The Pride defense would only allow a field goal from the attacking Lions. Damique Stokes snagged a 21-yard pass from Diehl to answer the Lion field goal.
- As the half was about to expire, Bryant Waters took a 14-yard punt return in for a touchdown after recovering his own fumble.
- During the eight-minute drive, Caloiaro entered as primary quarterback and picked up some yards over the air and on the ground. Prior to the Pride drive, Sean Reynolds and Murt held the Lions to nine yards to set the Pride up at the ALB 47. Caloiaro would see his first points of the season over the air on a deep pass to Zach Vanscovich to make the score 48-3.
- The fourth quarter ended scoreless on both sides as the Pride would run down the clock and gain offensive knowledge.
