Myles Bright and
Pat Holden's late layup and set of free throws pushes Widener men's basketball to its fourth straight win over MAC Commonwealth rival York 65-61 on Saturday.
Following this victory, the Pride are 10-4 on the season and 5-2 when facing MAC Commonwealth teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN CHARLES WOLF GYMNASIUM
Dunn, Schenk, and Kevin Matlack quickly got things started for the Pride with two quick jumpers and a three pointer to open with a 7-2 lead. With 15:09 on the board, Dunn added to his two points with a layup to extend the lead to five. After a couple drives and rebounds by both teams, Spartan Kai Cipalla hit a layup to bring the scoring back. Following the first subs of the game, Schenk and Bright cashed in on two layups to push the score to seven with 12:45 remaining. Dunn, with the help from Bright, drained a three after a Spartan turnover. Right around the halfway mark of the first, both teams went back and forth in a scoring battle with
Luke Mazur and
Xavier Ernest grabbing their first points of the game to extend the score to an 11-point differential. Two minutes later, at 8:17 Ernest put in a layup off a Dunn rebound and pass to make the score 26-12. With just over three minutes, Holden hit a three off another Dunn pass to extend the lead to 37-23. At the buzzer, Holden sunk another jumper which pushed him to his sixth point on the half after shooting 2 of 4 (50%) from the floor to go into halftime with a 41-28 lead. As a team, the Pride shot 16 of 26 (61.5%) in field goals, 4 of 5 (80%) from three, and added five of nine Spartan fouls.
The second half opened with six Spartan points, but were quickly answered with a Matlack layup to minimize the damage. Three minutes into the second of a Spartan Sean Kelly missed three, Schenk grabbed the loose ball and turned it into a fast break three pointer for the Pride to make the lead 46-38 with 17 minutes on the clock. Just after York's first timeout, Mazur hit his second three of the game from Holden which pushed the lead back to 10. As 75% of the game was completed, Ernest hit a layup to push himself to nine points on the afternoon following a Schenk assist to go up 14. After some missed opportunities from both sides, Bright snuck in a layup to make it an 11 points Pride advantage. Bright's layup set him at eight points. With just over four minutes remaining, York closed the gap to five which forced a Pride timeout. Right out of the timeout, Dunn drained a jumper give the Pride some breathing room with 2:56 left. The Spartan's kept inching closer but Holden's set of free throws with 1:49 on the scoreboard helped push the lead to six. As time was about to expire, Bright sealed the Pride victory with a layup to make the final score 65-61 in a road victory. In the second, the team shot 10 of 26 (38.5%) from the floor, added six from the arc, and cashed in on half of the four free throws attempts. Over the 60 minutes, the Blue and Gold sunk 32 points in the paint, 17 points off Spartan turnovers, and had 25 points credited to the team bench.
