Men’s Soccer Battles Hard Against Rutgers-Camden

Atify scores goal, but Pride falls to Scarlet Raptors

CHESTER, Pa .- The Widener's men soccer team played tough against Rutgers-Camden on Monday afternoon, but could not come up with the victory as the Scarlet Raptors pulled out a 2-1 win at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium.

This loss now puts the Pride at 0-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST RUTGERS-CAMDEN
  • No goals were scored until 24 minutes into the match as the Raptors put one in the net. The Pride defense held strong and did not allow another goal for the remainder of the first half.
  • The Pride fell Into a 2-0 hole In the 70th minute, but answered a minute later with a goal from Monsif Atify to close gap with 19 minutes remaining.
  • The Pride managed to get off two more shots In the final 11 minutes of the game, but none of them could net the equalizer. Michael Donaghy had a shot saved In the 79th minute and Sean Fatiga took a shot that went wide right In the 83rd minute.
  • Donaghy led the Blue and Gold with four shots, three of which were on goal. Atify had two shots for Widener In the defeat.

Widener will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to face Cairn. Kickoff for that match is at 3:30 p.m. The Pride will be back at Hirschmann Field at Quick Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when they host Neumann. Game time for that match is set for 7 p.m.
