Men’s Soccer Picks Up First Win Against Cairn

Fatiga scores two goals while leading Pride to 5-1 win

LANGHORNE, Pa. - TheWidener University men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season on Saturday after posting a 5-1 victory over Cairn on the road. 

This victory puts the Pride at 1-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CAIRN
  • The Pride got into attack mode from the get-go, as first-year Ryan Toporowski scored his first career goal 16 minutes into the match off a pass from fellow classmate Bryce Deshaies. Sophomore Sean Fatiga followed Toporowski six minutes later when he scored off an assist from fellow sophomore Monsif Atify.
  • In the second half, Fatiga opened it with a bang by scoring his second goal one minute into the action off a pass from senior Andrew Hurrell.
  • Then in the 62nd minute, Deshaies scored his first career goal off a pass from sophomore Michael Donaghy
  • The Pride put in their final goal in the 70th minute after first-year Michael Burckley scored his first career goal off an assist from Stefano Turano. The Pride outshot the Highlanders, 20-9, in the contest.
  • Goalie Ryan Van Pelt was in goal for majority of the match, making five saves on the day. 
UP NEXT
Widener will travel to Selinsgrove on Friday for a match against Susquehanna. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
