HOUSTON - The Widener University women's volleyball team finished its time in Texas on Saturday with a pair of matches against Rose-Hulman and Texas Lutheran at the University of St. Thomas.
The Pride won their first set of the season against Texas Lutheran in a 3-1loss in the final match of the day. Before that match, the Pride were swept by Rose-Hulman.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST TEXAS LUTHERAN
- The Pride opened the match by winning the first set, 25-22. The Pride posted a season-high 13 kills during the game.
- Unfortunately, Texas Lutheran won the next three matches, 25-6, 25-12, 25-16, to earn the victory.
- Shannon Toomey led the Pride with 11 kills, seven of which came in the opening-set victory.
- Megan Barthol paced Widener with 22 assists.
- Rachel DiCarlo stood out defensively, making 16 digs for the Pride.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ROSE-HULMAN
- The Pride dropped a 25-19, 26-24, 25-16 contest to Rose-Hulman.
- In the second set, the Pride came close to winning it, as they held a 24-23 lead after Liz Barnes registered a kill off a Barthol assist. However, Rose-Hulman scored the final three points of the game to win it.
- Surprisingly, the Pride had more kills than Rose-Hulman, as they posted 32 in the match compared to the Fightin' Engineers' 25. Emily Miller paced the Pride with 10 kills.
- Shannon Toomey led the Pride with 11 kills, seven of which came in the opening-set victory.
- Barthol led Widener with 22 assists.
- DiCarlo and Barthol had 10 digs apiece for the Pride on the defensive end.

Widener returns to the East Coast to face Stevenson on Wednesday in its first MAC Commonwealth match of the season on Wednesday at Stevenson. Match is set for 7 p.m.
