Field Hockey Downs Del Val for First Victory

Hoyer, Labezius score second-period goals to lead Pride to win

CHESTER, Pa. Maddie Hoyer and Katie Labezius each scored a goal in the second quarter to lead the Widener University field hockey team to its first victory of the season via a 2-0 win over Delaware Valley on Saturday at Edith R. Dixon Field.

The Pride improved to 1-1 on the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY 
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Hoyer fired in the first goal of the game off a pass by Bryn Marcavage in the 18thminute.
  • Five minutes later, Labezius scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke. 
  • The Pride outshot the Aggies by a whopping 25-2 margin. In the first half, the Blue and Gold fired 14 shots and did not allow the Aggies to take one shot.
  • In the second half, the Pride kept the pressure up offensively, taking 11 shots compared to Delaware Valley's two.
  • Abby Blake and Lilly Rejrat combined for the shutout in goal.
 
UP NEXT
