Women’s Soccer Begins 2022 Campaign With Tie

Forte finds back of the net in second half to help Pride forge tie with Penn State Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Pa. Madison Forte scored a goal on a penalty kick in the second half to help the Widener women's soccer team forge a 1-1 tie with Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday night on the road to open its 28th season in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST PENN STATE HARRISBURG
  • With the Pride trailing after the Nittany Lions scored in the 68th minute, Forte found the back of the net on her PK 10 minutes later following a foul by PSU in the scoring box to knot up the contest.
  • From there, neither the Pride nor the Nittany Lions could put in the go-ahead goal, forcing the game to end in a tie. There were no overtime periods played because the NCAA changed the rule for this year to eliminate overtime during the regular season.
  • The Pride totaled five shots in the contest. Madison Blackshire led the team with three shots, all of which were on goal. Alyssa Carman also had a shot on goal for Widener.
  • Samantha Coon made five saves in net for Widener.
