Women’s Soccer Beats Bryn Mawr for First Win

Barr breaks through for game-winner in 79th minute

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – First-year Kelly Barr scored a goal in the 79th minute to lead the Widener University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Bryn Mawr on Sunday afternoon for its first victory of the season.

The Pride improved to 1-0-1 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST BRYN MAWR
  • With the game tied at 1, Barr broke through with the game-winning goal and her first career score off a pass from Alyssa Carman
  • Before Barr's goal, the Pride and the Owls went back and forth against each other. The Pride scored a goal in the first three minutes of the game after Madison Blackshire put in a goal off a pass from Emily Schall. Then, the Owls tied the game in the 24th minute with a goal. 
  • Widener outshot Bryn Mawr, 17-12, in the match. Blackshire led the team with five shots, two of which were on goal. Katie Query followed with four shots and Barr added three for the Blue and Gold.
  • Samantha Coon made three saves in net for Widener.
UP NEXT
Widener returns to the pitch on Saturday when it travels to face Moravian. Kickoff is set for noon.
