ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Widener baseball team jumped out to a four-run lead and never looked back as it powered its way past Lebanon Valley, 9-5, in its MAC Commonwealth contest Friday afternoon at McGill Field.
With the win, the Pride improved to 12-13 on the season and 4-2 in MAC Commonwealth play. The Pride also swept the season series against the Dutchmen after topping them, 11-8, on Tuesday at Widener.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY
- The Pride jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, with Costanzo hitting a two-run blast to get the scoring going. Austin Oliver had an RBI single and Bryce Fremgen scored a run after Tommy McParland reached base on a catcher's interference call with the bases loaded.
- After the Dutchmen cut the lead in half by pushing across two runs in the bottom half, the Pride put up five run La over the next three innings to take a 9-2 lead. Costanzo had an RBI single in the second inning, Anthony Boccio pushed across a run on a sacrifice fly and Kyle Brex scored on a wild pitch in the third, and Nick Barenz and McParland scored on a pair of hit by pitches with the bases loaded in the fourth.
- From there, the Blue and Gold only allowed three runs for the rest of the game to earn the victory.
- Costanzo led the Pride at the dish, going a perfect 3-for-3 with his homer and four RBIs, and one run scored. The junior designated hitter now has nine homers, which leads the MAC Commonwealth.
- Kyle Laing earned the win on the mound after allowing only two hits while pitching 4 1/3 innings of relief.

The Pride will return to Chester to host Scranton on Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader. The first game will begin at 1 p.m., with the second game of the twin bill to start at 3.
