Softball Falls to York in MAC Doubleheader on Senior Day

Pride end year with 20-16 record; Renavitz surpasses 100 strikeouts for season

CHESTER, Pa.  – The Widener softball team concluded its 2022 season on Saturday afternoon by facing York in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Senior Day at the Widener University softball field.

Unfortunately, the Pride could not come away with wins in the final twin bill of the year, losing the first game, 6-3, and dropping the second one, 11-2. The Pride finished their season with a 20-16 overall  record and 6-10 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK IN GAME 1
  • Scoreless through the first inning, the Pride got on the scoreboard in the second inning after Mikayla Fedele hit an RBI single.
  • After York scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 2-1 lead, the Pride grabbed a 3-2 lead in the bottom half after Fedele smacked a two-run double to right field.
  • However, the Spartans scored four runs in the sixth to pull away with the win.
  • Fedele and Kaylin Johnson led the Pride at the plate, both going 2-for-3.
  • Before the game, the Pride honored their five seniors — Malia Calciano, Kelly Dodgson, Mikaela Lovell, Ally McDowell, and Bri Milz — for their efforts they gave to the program over the last four years.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK IN GAME 2
  • The Pride were unable to push a run across the plate until the fifth inning after McDowell hit an RBI double to left field and Liz Renavitz hit an RBI single.
  • Johnson led the Pride at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two doubles one run scored for the Blue and Gold.
  • Renavitz surpassed 100 strikeouts for the season on the mound in the loss after fanning six batters. The first-year pitcher ended the year ranked second in the MAC Commonwealth in strikeouts looking (41) and third in strikeouts (103).
