CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener women's lacrosse team played hard against Misericordia, but a three-goal fourth quarter by the Cougars helped them come away with a 9-8 win on Saturday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon Field.
With the loss, the Pride fell to 5-3 on the season, losing their third in a row following their program-best 5-0 start.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MISERICORDIA
- The Pride overcame a 4-2 deficit through the first quarter by scoring three goals in the second to take a 5-4 lead at halftime. Jamie DeHaven and Gab Cohen each scored off free position shots to tie the game and Olivia McDonald fired in the go-ahead goal with 40 seconds left in the half off a pass from Katie Ward.
- In the third quarter, the Pride extended their lead to 8-6 after outscoring the Cougars, 3-2, in the period. Clark Trowbridge, Ward and Catherine Scott each scored off free position shots.
- However, the Cougars came back in the fourth with their three-goal rally, with the final goal coming with 2:51 left. The Pride had a chance to tie it up after taking two shots at the net, but both went wide.
- Scott and Ward paced the Pride with two goals apiece.
- Defensively, Maddie Medve made 12 saves. Kaely Cristello led the Pride with five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
