CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener women's lacrosse team led for three and a half quarters before Shenandoah scored three goals in the final five minutes to win, 12-10, on Saturday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon Field.
With the loss, the Pride dropped to 5-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SHENANDOAH
- The Pride jumped out to a 6-1 lead through the first quarter. Amber Bretz scored two of her game-high five goals in the period to lead the Pride's offensive attack. Chelsea Forsyth, Katie Ward, Clark Trowbridge and Jamie DeHaven each scored in the period.
- Bretz added her third goal of the game in the second quarter to make it a 7-2 Widener lead, but Shenandoah scored two goals to cut the lead to three at halftime.
- In the third quarter, the Pride were in a back-and-forth battle with the Hornets, as both teams scored three goals apiece. Bretz flung in two goals while Gab Cohen added one in the period.
- In the fourth, the Hornets scored four goals, including the go-ahead goal with 3:58 left, to come away with the comeback win.
- Defensively, Maddie Medve made 10 saves in the defeat.
