DAVENPORT, Fla. –
Justin Costanzo batted a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI to highlight the Widener baseball team's final game of the RussMatt Invitational against Chatham on Wednesday at NorthEast Regional Park.
Unfortunately, the Pride dropped a 5-3 contest to the Cougars to fall to 5-7 on the season. The Pride went 4-2 during their spring break trip in the Sunshine State.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CHATHAM
- After the Pride got down, 4-0, through the top of the sixth inning, Costanzo helped them get back into the game by blasting a two-run homer in the bottom half to make it only a two-run deficit.
- In the eighth, Costanzo smacked a solo shot to cut Chatham's lead to 4-3.
- In the bottom of the ninth after Chatham added another run in the top half, the Pride had a chance to tie or take the lead after Jason Morgan walked and Kyle Brex and Anthony Boccio were both hit by pitches to load the bases with two outs. However, the Pride had a fly out in their next at-bat to end the game.
- Along with Costanzo, Morgan, Matt Samson, and Alex Savkov each had a hit for Widener. Morgan's hit was a double in the third inning.
