CHESTER, Pa. –
Justin Costanzo and
Matt Samson each blasted home runs while leading the Widener baseball team to a 9-2 win over Ursinus on Wednesday afternoon at the Widener University baseball field.
The victory helped the Pride reach the .500 mark on the season at 7-7.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST URSINUS
- Clinging to a 5-2 lead through six innings, the Pride distanced themselves from the Bears in the seventh after Costanzo hit a three-run homer to right-center field to give them an 8-2 advantage. For the season, the junior designated hitter has five homers, which is tied for first in the MAC Commonwealth.
- Then in the eighth, Samson smacked a solo homer for the second game in a row to put an exclamation point on the win.
- Samson led the Pride at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. The senior right fielder had an RBI single in the second inning.
- Kyle Brex also had a multi-hit game for the Blue and Gold, going 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Anthony Boccio added an RBI double in the third inning in the win.
- Aidan O'Brien picked up his first collegiate win on the hill after allowing only two earned runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
