CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener baseball team played tough against Haverford, but the Fords were able to come away with a 11-6 win on Friday afternoon at the Widener University baseball field.
With the loss, the Pride dropped to 7-8 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HAVERFORD
- The Pride played an even game with the Fords through four innings. After allowing a run in the first inning, the Pride received an RBI double from Aaron Nuble in the third to tie the game.
- However, the Fords pushed across four runs in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom half, the Pride received an RBI single from Kyle Brex to cut the deficit to 5-2.
- The Blue and Gold got back into the game in the seventh after Anthony Boccio blasted a two-run home run to make it only a 5-4 Haverford lead.
- Unfortunately, the Fords broke the game open in the ninth inning by scoring six runs to take an 11-4 advantage. The Pride put two runs on the board in the bottom of the ninth after Matt Samson smacked a solo homer and Jason Morgan had an RBI single, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
- Boccio and Brex led the Pride at the dish with three hits apiece, Boccio went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, one run scored, one walk and one stolen base to go with his homer, while Brex went 3-for-6 with one RBI and one run scored.
- Samson, Nuble and Morgan had two hits apiece for the Pride in the defeat. Samson's solo shot marked the third straight game in which he hit a home run.

The Pride will travel to face Susquehanna on Sunday in non-conference doubleheader. The first game is set for 12:30 p.m., with the nightcap to follow at 3:30.
