CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener women's lacrosse team tied its best start in program history by routing Immaculata, 20-4, on Monday afternoon at Edith R. Dixon Field for its fifth straight win to begin the season.
With the victory, the Pride are 5-0 for the first time since 1993. The Blue and Gold have won five straight games for only the sixth time in program history and for the first time since 2010.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST IMMACAULATA
- Ten Pride players scored a goal to help the team produce its highest scoring output of the season. Gab Cohen led the effort with five goals on the day, Amber Bretz and Katie Ward followed with three goals apiece, Jamie DeHaven and Maura Murray score two each, and Clark Trowbridge, Catherine Scott, Amanda Dill and Chelsea Forsyth each had one goal.
- Bretz also led the Pride with three assists to tally a game-high seven points. The senior midfielder also had a team-high five draw controls and four ground balls in the win.
- Widener wasted no time against the Mighty Macs, jumping out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter. After adding three more goals in the second period to take a 10-3 lead at halftime, the Pride fired in seven more goals in the third to take a commanding 17-3 advantage. The Pride added three more goals in the fourth to seal the victory.
- Defensively, Maddie Medve tallied eight saves before giving way to Katelyn Rosini, who finished the game and made one save in goal. Widener leads the MAC Commonwealth in save percentages at .623.
