RADNOR, Pa. - The Widener women's lacrosse team used a strong third quarter to pull away for a 9-8 win over Cabrini on the road Thursday night and put together their first 4-0 start in 29 years.
The Pride have won their first four games for the first time since 1993, when they started 5-0 that season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CABRINI
- With the game tied at 4, the Pride came out firing in the third quarter, scoring four goals in the period.
- The Pride took the lead with 8:30 left in the third after Gab Cohen scored her second goal of the game off an assist from Amelia Alminde. Then, the Pride received two more goals from Clark Trowbridge and Jamie DeHaven to extend the lead to 7-4 with 5:00 remaining. After a Cabrini put in a goal with 1:30 left, Katie Ward tacked on the fourth goal to give them an 8-4 advantage heading into the fourth period.
- In the final period, the Pride received a goal from Amber Bretz to go up 9-6 before holding on to win by one.
- Cohen, Bretz and Ward each finished with two goals to lead the Pride. Ward and Catherine Scott paced the Pride with three points apiece after Ward also had an assist and Scott scored one goal and handed out two assists.
- Maddie Medve made 12 saves for the Pride to pick up a win in net. Medve leads the MAC Commonwealth in goals against average (6.26) and save percentage (.613).
