AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Widener baseball team put up double-digit runs for the second time this season, but it wasn't enough as it lost a 12-10 contest to Pennsylvania foe Moravian on Sunday afternoon during the second day of the RussMatt Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.
With the loss, the Pride dropped to 3-6 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MORAVIAN
- Holding a 5-4 lead, the Pride extended it to 9-4 in the top of the seventh inning after scoring four runs on four hits. Jason Morgan got the scoring started with a RBI single, then Austin Oliver followed with a RBI double. Aaron Nuble pushed across the third run on a single and Oliver scored the fourth run on a Matt Samson fielder's choice.
- However, the Greyhounds took over the game by scoring eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the seventh.
- The Blue and Gold tried to make one last rally in the ninth, as they got one run after Samson scored on an Andrew Yates fielder's choice. Unfortunately, that would be the only run the Pride would get in the inning to end the game.
- Kyle Brex led the Pride at the dish, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. The junior shortstop had an RBI single in the first inning that gave the Pride an early 1-0 lead.
- Morgan, Nuble, Tommy McParland, and Brandon Reis had two hits apiece for Widener in the defeat. McParland's two hits went for extra bases, as he hit a triple to lead off the first inning and smacked a double in the third inning. McParland also scored two runs for WU.
