CHESTER, Pa. – Widener men's basketball prevailed over Messiah 66-58 in their second MAC Commonwealth contest.
After tonight's second conference win, the Pride move to 6-2 in regular season play and remain unbeaten 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Leading the team in points was graduate student Pat Holden with 17 points and three rebounds.
- Following closely behind was teammate Kevin Schenk hitting 16 points.
- Kenny Lewis hit a new season high in rebounds with 18.
- From the bench, Myles Bright drained nine points and found one rebound in his 13 minutes of play.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN THE SCHWARTZ CENTER
The Pride and Falcons battled back and forth in the first half with a few lead changes. In the first half the men shot 12 of 28 from the floor and 7 of 16 from the three-point line. Lewis helped the first half rebound total climb to 20 in 20 minutes. Going into halftime the team led the Falcons by six points 33-27 with Holden taking charge in points.
During the second half, the battle continued with a close contest going into the remaining eight minutes. In the second, the Pride defense stepped up and held the Falcons while the offense capitalized on their 18 rebounds to throw up 33 second half points. The Blue and Gold shot 10 of 27 in field goals and found six points out of nine attempts from behind the arch. Over the course of the 60-minute game, the Pride found 24 points in the paint and 14 points from the bench. The team saw 17 points off of turnovers and capitalized on second chance points with nine. After 60 minutes, the Pride topped the Falcons 66-58 to continue their two game win streak.
