READING, Pa. – Widener women's basketball opened their 2022-23 MAC Commonwealth string with a loss against Alvernia.
Following Wednesday's loss, the Pride fall to 2-5 in the regular season and open conference play 0-1.

- With a new season high in points, senior Jordan D'Ambrosio led the team with 21 points over the course of 38 minutes.
- First year Mia Robbins found nine rebounds on the night.
- From the bench, Rachel Ludwig drained four points and snagged five free balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN READING
The first half brought two opposite quarters for the Pride. To open the game, the ladies started hot with a quick 19-13 lead over the Golden Wolves. In the first quarter the team saw 9 of 16 from the floor and a successful free throw attempt. The Golden Wolves came out in the second quarter outscoring by a 10-point margin to head into halftime with a four-point lead. The team shot 3 of 14 in field goals and went 2 of 8 for three.
The Pride came out of halftime on fire, scoring 23 points to take the lead by two points. The third quarter was where the ladies settled in and shot 8 of 16 from inside the arch and drained five threes out of their seven attempts. Going into the fourth, the Blue and Gold looked to capitalize on their third quarter performance but got stuck behind the Golden Wolves 30 points. The team shot 4 of 14 and 1 of 7 to tally 17 points. After regulation Widener fell short 78-67. For the duration of the game, the ladies earned 30 points in the paint, nine off of turnovers, and put up 16 points off of missed baskets.
