ANNVILLE, Pa. - Widener women's volleyball coach Donovan Anglin has been named MAC Commonwealth Women's Volleyball Coach of the Year for the 2022 season, the conference announced on Tuesday.
A 1993 alumnus, Anglin has been coach of the women's team for fourteen seasons and has helped guide the women's program to some of its best seasons in program history. He put the program in a position this season to challenge for a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth title, and the Pride made it to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament, finishing the season with a 13-14 overall record and a 5-3 conference record.
"It's a great honor to be recognized by my colleagues in the conference, but this award would not be possible without the resilience and hard work of my players and staff; it is as much for them as it for me," Anglin said. "We had a tough start to the season, but these young ladies never gave up and the recognition of Megan, Rachel and Shannon is a testament to their hard work. I am very proud of my team."
Of Anglin's players, three from the 2022 roster made All-MAC Commonwealth honors as well. Junior setter Megan Barthol made second-team honors and junior libero Rachel DiCarlo and sophomore middle hitter Shannon Toomey were honorable mentions. Barthol, who has played for Anglin for three seasons, is the ninth player in Widener Volleyball history to tally 1,000 assists.
The Pride has had ten post-season appearances with Anglin as head coach, starting his first season in 2008 when the Pride notched a school-record 26 wins and earned their first postseason berth in program history by advancing to the ECAC South Tournament. The squad upended the City College of New York at home to earn a berth in the semifinals.
Anglin is also Widener's men's volleyball head coach and is preparing for the upcoming season starting in January.
